how far in advance should you book a newborn photography session in sydney?

capturing all the moments of the newborn bubble in an unobtrusive way

For newborn sessions, timing is more flexible than a lot of newborn photography advice suggests. I don't shoot the classic posed, curled-up-in-a-basket newborn look, so there's no tight window where the "right" shot has to happen. That said, if you want your session to capture the specific feeling of those very early days, sooner is still better than later.

what a newborn session with me actually captures

I'm not trying to get baby to sleep in a particular pose or styling a basket shot. What I'm photographing is the everyday life you're actually living in those first weeks; the feed, sleep, repeat cycle, at home, while you and your partner are still in that slightly dazed, adjusting-to-a-new-person bubble. It's documentary, not directed: I arrive, we chat, and then I get out of your way and capture what's actually happening around you.

so does timing matter, or not?

Both, in different ways. Because there's no posed setup to nail within a narrow window, you're not racing against a baby "growing out of" a specific look. But that early bubble - the disorientation, the newness, the very small scale of everything - does shift as the weeks go by and a routine sets in. If capturing that specific stage is what you want, earlier in those first few weeks tends to reflect it more clearly. If you'd rather wait until things settle a bit and you're feeling more like yourselves, that's genuinely fine too - you're not missing a deadline either way.

what booking ahead looks like

You don't need a confirmed date to get in touch. Reaching out during pregnancy means:

  • We pencil in a rough window around your due date, rather than a fixed day.

  • Once your baby arrives, you let me know and we lock in an actual date within that window.

  • If baby comes early, late, or you'd simply rather push things back a few weeks, that's expected, totally not a problem.

This is the same "get in touch, then plan together" process used for every session - the only difference for newborns is that the first conversation often happens before the shoot is even fully plannable.

even when you’re resting, I’ll still be capturing the images for you

where these sessions happen

Most newborn sessions I shoot are at home - familiar surroundings, natural light, and no need to pack up and travel anywhere with a very new baby. If you're across Coogee or the wider Eastern Suburbs and want to talk through what a session could look like, get in touch and we can plan around your due date, whenever that ends up being.

If you'd like to see more of what a documentary-style newborn or family session looks like, take a look at the family photography page — or get in touch directly if you're ready to talk timing.
